Walk #2 – Friday June 23 2017
4 pm optional – come at least 45 minutes before the walk to explore the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum. “Our Chosen Land” documents the history of Calgary’s Chinatown, including letters and petitions of complaint to council about the early Chinese community. The Museum also features an overview of Chinese history around the world, and terra cotta soldiers from Xi’an are on display! –$5 admission fee
5 pm -Dale Lee Kwong and Doreen Vanderstoop will guide participants to highlights of Chinatown while sharing poetry related to their personal history, and Chinese-Canadian themes. Expect food samples, introduction to mystery foods, ancient cooking techniques, historical sculptures, Chinese-themed murals, congo line through a Chinese grocery store and more! –$5 fee Meet on the steps of the Cultural Centre
7:30 pm optional – stay for a traditional 10-course Chinese dinner at Silver Dragon Restaurant with leaders of the walk – $25 tax and tip included. Accessible by stairs only.

About the Walk Team
Dale Lee Kwong is a poet, essayist, and playwright. She is native Calgarian and third-generation Chinese-Canadian. Her work explores Chinese-Canadian history, diversity & inclusion, adoption, and LGBTQ issues.
Doreen Vanderstoop is a Calgary-based storyteller, musician, and writer. She will share an oral adaptation of “Ghost Train” by Paul Yee. Doreen is a member of Storytellers of Canada and TALES –The Alberta League Encouraging Storytelling.
